So much goodness

Whether it's the amazing taste, the fact that it's UNREFINED mineral salt, made right here in the USA, or that it's essential to our health, there is so much to love about Redmond Real Salt.

Every Bite Tastes Better

Have you ever wished for a secret ingredient that would make every dish you prepare taste its very best? Compared to typical sea salt, Real Salt has a much smoother flavor profile – a subtle, salty sweetness that naturally enhances the flavor of every bite. Real Salt doesn’t make your food taste like salt, it enhances the flavors you already have.

Recommended by Doctors

"For decades we were told by our doctors we should fear salt – and maybe, if your doctor still insists on using processed “sea salt” that is nothing but sodium chloride, we should still be afraid." - Dr. Ken Berry

What is ancient sea salt?

In prehistoric times, there was an inland sea covering what is now Redmond, Utah, known as the Sundance Sea. That sea is gone, but it left behind a large, pristine, underground salt deposit—which is where we mine Real Salt.

Does Real Salt expire?

Real Salt doesn't expire, because natural salt without additives doesn't ever go bad. Food only spoils when fungal, bacterial, yeast, or other microbial growth takes place. All of these require water. Salt doesn’t contain water, so it doesn’t support microbial growth, meaning it won’t spoil. In fact, salt is actually used as a preservative for other foods, like meat.

DOES REAL SALT HAVE THE IODINE WE NEED?

Unrefined sea salt has a small amount of natural iodine. But salt might not be the best source, even when it's iodized. Most salt producers remove any trace minerals in their salt and add enough iodine to qualify as "iodized." Redmond Real Salt is an ancient, unrefined sea salt, which means we don't add anything (including iodine) to the 60+ trace minerals nature gave our salt. How much iodine is in a serving of Real Salt? When nature created our Central Utah salt deposit, she included roughly 18-23 micrograms of naturally-occurring iodine in each ¼ teaspoon serving. That's a bit more than 10% of the Institute of Medicine's recommended daily allowance of 150 micrograms, and a lot less than artificially iodized salts. Is iodized salt the best source of iodine? No. We aren't exactly unbiased here, but your body will be much more receptive to natural sources of iodine than it is to iodized salt. If you have access to iodine-rich foods or even quality iodine supplements, we recommend those.

WHY DOES MY SALT CLUMP?

Great question! Salt is naturally hygroscopic, which means it absorbs water from the air. When grains of salt absorb enough moisture, they dissolve slightly and stick to each other. Many refined salts add anti-caking or flow agents to prevent this natural clumping reaction, but Real Salt does not have these additives. The clumps usually break up pretty easily unless they’ve been exposed to a lot of moisture. Adding uncooked rice to your salt shaker can help absorb moisture and keep the salt from clumping up. In most shakers, the salt will come out but the rice is too big to fit through the holes.

Best Popcorn Salt I've Bought

Absolutely the best buy-able popcorn salt out there! And, you only need a tiny pinch for your whole bowl. The salt's amazingly fine texture covers from top to bottom when you shake the popcorn up. Especially if you need to watch your salt intake, this product is perfect.

Hi Melinda,
We're glad you have discovered one of our favorite things. Who knew that just by making our Redmond Real Salt a little finer, it is an entirely knew popcorn experience! And can I just add, that if you pop the kernals in coconute oil, it's next level :)

Really works

The very fine salt does what it says it will do - it sticks to the popcorn. That means a small pinch goes a long way and I’m not left with a lot of wasted salt in the bottom of the bowl as when I used regular salt.
