WHEN SHOULD YOU GIVE YOUR HORSE AN ELECTROLYTE SUPPLEMENT?

Let's say your horse has worked and sweated hard or she's been traveling for two days during the first sweltering spring weather. Your horse looks a little droopy and needs additional fluids. Should you provide salt or an equine electrolyte supplement to replenish minerals and encourage drinking? Great question! Horses need salt and occasionally an electrolyte. When is the best time to give the Electrolyte syringe—before a trail ride, during, or after?

Our syringe is great before a ride and after to help speed up recovery. If it is very hot, humid, or if your horse is working extra hard or sweating a lot, a third can occasionally be given in between.

Can I give a Redmond Daily Gold syringe with the Electrolyte syringe?

While it’s safe to give your horse both a Daily Gold syringe and Electrolyte syringe, we recommend spacing the doses at least 45 minutes apart. Both products will be best absorbed when administered separately.

Can I give the Electrolyte to pregnant mares?

You sure can. Redmond Electrolyte contains electrolytes, trace minerals, and vitamins that benefit every horse—especially pregnant mares. Pregnancy is a critical time for mares to receive minerals and electrolytes needed to sustain both them and their foals.

How many Electrolyte syringes can I safely give in one day?

We recommend not exceeding three a day. Your horse will benefit from Redmond Electrolyte before and after exercising and performing. If it is very hot, humid, or if your horse is working exceptionally hard or sweating profusely, you may give your horse a third syringe in between. Read more here.
